The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced on Monday, 8:00 p.m. the closing of subscription to Suez Canal investment certificates after total proceeds amounted to EGP 61 billion.
Issuing and participating banks collected EGP 12 billion on Monday, said CBE Governor Hisham Ramez, adding that individuals accounted for 90% of total subscription while institutions made up the remaining 10%.
Egypt is seeking EGP 60 billion from these certificates, which will go for financing the digging of the new waterway, in addition to building six new tunnels across the canal in preparation for launching a logistics services and trade zone.
